MC BREED PASSES AT AGE 37

MC Breed is joining his pal Tupac in the great rap hall in the sky.

The Michigan hip-hopster best known for the 1993 hit "Gotta Get Mine," featuring Shakur, died of kidney failure Saturday at the age of 37.

Breed (full name Eric Breed) had been ill for some time and died in his sleep at a friend's house in Ypsilanti, a suburb of Detroit.

"We are saddened by our great loss. More than just an artist, we mourn the loss of a beloved father, son, brother and friend," his family and management said. "We are thankful and blessed to have been in his presence and want him to be remembered for his creative, caring, talented and hard-working spirit."

Breed's 1991 debut, M.C. Breed & DFC, spawned the single "Ain't No Future in Yo' Frontin'." His 1993 release, The New Breed, featured "Gotta Get Mine" with Tupac. After Shakur's death in 1996, Breed released 10 more albums but never really broke through the mainstream again.

al-qaeda supports McCain?

John McCain 'endorsed by al-Qaeda supporters'
Supporters of al-Qaeda have said they would prefer Republican candidate John McCain to win the US election because he is more likely to continue the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

In a message broadcast on the password-protected al-Hesbah site, the group said they would also welcome a pre-election terror attack on the US because that would make a McCain win more likely.
In an endorsement that will not be welcomed by Mr McCain's flagging campaign, the group said that if al-Qaeda wants to exhaust the USmilitarily and economically, the "impetuous" Republican presidential candidate is the better choice.
"This requires presence of an impetuous American leader such as McCain, who pledged to continue the war till the last American soldier," the message said.
"Then, al-Qaeda will have to support McCain in the coming elections so that he continues the failing march of his predecessor, Bush."
"If al-Qaeda carries out a big operation against American interests," it said, "this act will be support of McCain because it will push the Americans deliberately to vote for McCain so that he takes revenge for them against al-Qaeda. Al-Qaeda then will succeed in exhausting America till its last year in it."
Mark Salter, a senior McCain adviser, had no immediate comment.
The message is credited to a frequent and apparently respected contributor named Muhammad Haafid. However, Haafid is not believed to have a direct affiliation with al-Qaeda plans or knowledge of its operations

Analog Modeling

Ozone is the result of extensive research in analog modeling. Ozone 3 provides compression, equalization and harmonic excitation that recreate the behavior exhibited by analog equipment. Analog processing has certain nonlinear aspects that a mathematician would consider "wrong" but sound better musically. Any analog equalizer, for example, applies a small phase delay to the sound. These types of “imperfections” provide the analog characteristics of warmth, sparkle, depth and an overall pleasing sound. Ozone 3 captures the essence of analog gear to deliver sweet sounding masters.

Digital Precision

While analog modeling can provide a pleasant character or “colorization” to the sound, in some situations precise or “transparent” signal processing is desired. For example, you may wish to equalize or notch out a frequency without introducing the phase delay inherent in analog filters. For these applications, Ozone provides a digital, linear phase equalizer and crossover for a level of surgical precision not possible in analog hardware.
64-bit Audio Processing

When processing audio, Ozone 3 can perform thousands of calculations on a single sample. In any digital system, each of these calculations has a finite accuracy, limited by the number of bits used in the calculation. To avoid rounding errors from interfering with the audible portion of the audio, Ozone 3 performs each calculation using 64 bits. Can you hear 64 bits? No, but that’s the point. Ozone 3 pushes the rounding errors down into the inaudible range.

Useablility Enhancements: Undo History

Ever have a late night recording session only to wake up in the morning with a tinny, horrible-sounding master? Hip-hop artists continue to deal with aftermath of shooting outside East El Paso nightclub

EL PASO - Three weeks after a shooting outside of an East El Paso nightclub after a hip-hop music event, hip-hop show promoters and artists, along with local venues, are still experiencing negative after affects.
Deshaun Williams was arrested last week in connection with the Sept. 21 shooting outside of Graham Central Station that injured 12 people, two critically.
The day after the shooting, Teleah Callins president of Denver-based Heavy Ghetto Entertainment, was told by managers of Studio 69 in Downtown El Paso that her Oct. 3 show, featuring New Orleans rapper Baby Boy Da Prince, was canceled.
"They were afraid to have him because he was a 'down south' (a term describing a style of rap) artist, but he's a pop artist," Callins said.
Callins said she was told Studio 69 didn't play the style of music of Baby Boy Da Prince, but Callins said she believes the cancellation had to with the negative stigma placed on hip-hop events in El Paso.
"It wasn't until the news story (of the shooting) came out that he decided he wanted to cancel," Callins said.
Representatives from Studio 69 couldn't be reached for comment.
Callins said she eventually found another venue for her show, which took place Oct. 4, but the show was unsuccessful.
"We lost a bunch of money on that show," Callins said. "El Paso has left a bad taste for our entertainment company."

Tego Calderon, are also fearful that that show will be canceled.
One of the artists scheduled to perform, rapper Silkski, said he has a large fan base here and hopes the concert goes on as scheduled.
"I once did a show at Club Volare, and there was no problem. It turned out well, there was a full house, everything was good," Silkski said. "For (the shooting) to affect us and affect our livelihood because somebody decided to shoot, that has something to do with something going on locally."
Silkski said hip-hop as a whole is not associated with gang violence, but because many gang members associate themselves with the style of music, it casts a dark shadow over hip-hop.
"They're giving rappers a bad rap," Silkski said. "There is 'gansta rap' out there that does contribute to that, but there's a whole lot of hip-hop out there that's not like that."
Managers of at least one El Paso venue, Ice Bar at 3233 N. Mesa, still host a hip-hop night, but have revamped their dress code and security, and are targeting an older audience.
"We're not even targeting 20 and under, we're strictly 21 and over now," said manager Rudy Mendivil. "Generally speaking, hip-hop always had that bad vibe, but in the club industry, we try to get a feel for people who just want to have a good time."
Mendivil said the new dress code restricts jerseys, head wear or obvious gang tattoos.
"We want people to come in here and make sure they have a good time," Mendivil said. "They don't have to worry about the negativity attached to hip-hop."
